EXERCISE ON PURPOSE

…exercise thyself.…

1 TIMOTHY 4:7 KJV

Because our lifestyles don’t provide much exercise, we must exercise on purpose. Since exercise is defined simply as movement, any movement will help.

When I am working at my computer all day, every so often I will get up and take a break. I have an exercise ball that I use to relieve tension and fatigue. It was given to me by my chiropractor. Many times I will just go in and sit on that ball for five minutes, or I may bounce around on it for a while. Anything that keeps the body moving—even stretching, even laughing—starts the blood to flowing, which is good.

The bottom line is, when it comes to exercise, do whatever works for you.

I have to admit that I can’t do floor exercises. They just don’t work for me. I can only work out on a treadmill if I am doing something constructive like discussing business with my secretary at the same time. I have to have something to take my mind off the treadmill. I just can’t stand there for forty-five minutes doing nothing but walking. It seems like such a waste of time to me. I need to feel like I am accomplishing something with my time.

Two things I have discovered that relax me and take my mind off my work are playing golf and walking. I like to play golf with my husband Dave. I get good exercise, and I enjoy walking. I try to walk several miles a week, two or three miles at a time, three or four times weekly.
